Take a Little Off the Top (and Sides)

Subcontractors working for Wallach Construction Associates sanded down an entire two-story Colonial to the bare clapboards at the corner of Saw Mill Hill Road and Route 116.

Workers used circular sanders while standing or sitting on scaffolding under blue tarps to keep down the dust and keep rain off the wood. The job has taken four people about two weeks using six-inch circular sanders.

"They wanted a flat surface," said Cervando Izazga, a subcontractor on the site. Izazga said the owners didn't want to sandblast the house because the finish they wanted is flat.

Izazga said the work is hot and dry in the summer sun.
