A short line has formed at the Ridgefield Tax Collector's Office as residents take care of one of the necessary evils of home ownership: paying property taxes.
With checks in hand, they are turning out in high numbers this last week to pay without penalty, says Tax Clerk Victoria Gasperino.
"It's the last-minute rush," she says, in between serving residents on Monday.
Property owners have until the end of the day on Aug. 1 to pay taxes without incurring a late fee penalty. And, as is the case every year, some folks just wait till the very end to hand over their hard-earned money.
On that day, Aug. 1, the Tax Collector will have special hours -- from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
