17 Safest, Most Dangerous CT Towns for Cyclists, Pedestrians
Counting down the Connecticut towns with the highest and lowest walk- and bikeability scores.
For the month of July, Patch is going to be breaking down the numbers behind crime and safety to find the safest and most dangerous towns in Connecticut.
To start things off, we’re looking at how safe Connecticut towns are for cyclists and pedestrians using data compiled by Bike Walk Connecticut through research and opinion surveys.
Using what they found, Bike Walk Connecticut release their first annual scorecard ranking each town in the state.
Scroll through the 17 highest ranked towns above and see the lowest scoring towns below.
While they might have more traffic on average, larger towns and cities tended to rank higher on the list, as it takes into account action plans, task forces and whether or not they have a “complete street” policy that takes into account all forms of transportation.
“We want this project to encourage cities and towns to take a really robust approach to complete streets and being bike- and walk-friendly,” Bike Walk Connecticut Executive Director Kelly Kennedy said. “Being able to get around safely by bike or on foot isn't just a fad or a health issue or environmental issue. It's an economic development issue. Towns that are bike- and walk-friendly are great places to live, work, shop and play."
