Young Carolers Bring Holiday Spirit to Laurel Ridge Residents

The holidays are in full swing and many well-wishers have visited to greet residents and patients at Laurel Ridge Health Care Center, located at 642 Danbury Road, Ridgefield.

For the fourth consecutive year, Girl Scout Cadette 9th grade troop from Ridgefield High School paired up with Girl Scout Junior 4th grade troop from Barlow Mountain Elementary School to lead the Laurel Ridge residents in a festive round of holiday carols and readings on Thursday, December 5th.  Many of these girls have been in scouts since they were in Kindergarten and are dedicated to giving back to the community.

This year, two of the  4th grade girls, Angelina Cerulli and Rachel Rudnicki,  took on the leadership role of planning and coordinating  the caroling event (with some guidance from their moms).   They chose the date, put together song books, set up a practice session for the troop and organized a pizza party to follow at John's Best Pizza.

"It was more work than I thought it was going to be to coordinate," Angelina Cerulli said.  "But it was nice to see the smiles on the residents faces when we began to sing.  I can't wait to go back next year."

Laurel Ridge Therapeutic Recreation Department’s mission is to provide daily enrichment programs designed to promote health and wellness to its residents and patients, as well as reduce activity limitations and restrictions on activities of daily living.  Singing engages and stimulates multimodal sensors within the brain, involving the integration of both auditory and sensori-motor processes.
The girls chose familiar Christmas and Hanukah songs and readings to share with the smiling residents.  This holiday season, it's important to find time for creative and enjoyable holiday activities to share with seniors or people with disabilities in your life.  Laurel Ridge will hold an open house on December 8th at 2:30 PM.  For more information on how you can volunteer at Laurel Ridge, please call  (203) 438-8226.
