St. Stephen's Concert Features Bach Choral and Organ Works

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 351 Main St. in Ridgefield, CT, presents a choral and organ concert on Sunday, April 27, at 4 p.m.

The St. Stephen’s Concert Choir and the Connecticut Chamber Players will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s magnificent Cantata No. 4, “Christ lag in Todesbanden”(“Christ lay in the bonds of death”) conducted by Music Minister Scott Toperzer.

Arno Steinig, the church’s organist, will perform works from the 18th to the 21st century.  The program features Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in E minor, Louis Vierne’s Adagio from Symphony No. 3, Partita on “Awake, my heart, with gladness” by 20th century Belgian composer Flor Peeters, and the March from Sonata Breve by U.S. composer Gerald Near, who is considered one of today’s finest writers of church music.
