St. Stephen’s Announces Schedule of Christmas Services

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 351 Main Street, marks the start of its active Christmas schedule on Sunday, December 22, with the young people’s presentation of a new Christmas story, written and directed by Michael Altopp, at the 10 a.m. service. “All children from the community are invited to join the procession of angels, shepherds and crèche animals with no rehearsal,” says Sarah Moden-Alliston, Associate for Family and Youth Ministries.  “They just need to come to North Hall at 9:30 that morning to claim a costume.”   St. Stephen’s will hold three Christmas Eve services, beginning with a simplified worship hour at 4 p.m. with Holy Communion and carols led by youth musicians.  The adult choir will sing at the 8 and 11 p.m. services and will present special anthems and carols at 10:30. “Then, at 11, with the work of Christmas Eve behind you, we invite you to treat yourself to the beauty and wonder of carols and candles on this holy night,” says Rev. Altopp.  “You will leave worship in the peaceful first few minutes of Christmas Day.” On Christmas morning there will be a 10 o’clock service for all ages, with communion, singing and bell ringing to celebrate the birth of Christ.  “Kids are invited to come in their pajamas and bring their favorite new gift,” adds Rev. Altopp.
