Ridgefield Rotary Club's Busy Summer
The Rotary Club of Ridgefield has had an active summer of Rotary Grants, student scholarships as well as excellent and informative speakers. At the Club’s July 10th meeting, Rotary Grants were presented to Irene Massagli and Bunny Lancaster of the Ridgefield O.W.L.S. (Organization for Retired Ridgefield Seniors) to provide field trip insurance for their many travel programs; to Marilyn Carroll of The League of Women Voters to help cover the cost of the mock election at the High School and voter brochures; and to Nancy Selander of the Ridgefield Historical Society for lighting up-grades. At the same meeting, we were joined by Samantha Holmes and her mother, Patricia. The Club sponsored Samantha to attend the World Affairs Seminar in Wisconsin this year and we were happy to hear of her experiences. At the Club’s July 17th meeting, a Rotary Grant was presented to Steve Sasse of the Ridgefield SCOR to repair damaged goals and netting from Hurricane Sandy. At the same meeting, the Club was joined by Rotary scholarship recipient Molly Weeks and her parents, Susan & Tom. Congratulations to Molly, who has accepted a track and field scholarship from Marist College! At the same meeting, the Club heard from Guest Speaker, Diane Ingram, on “From Shadow to Shine: power up through purpose, passion and action.” At the Club’s July 31st meeting, a Rotary Grant was presented to Meals on Wheels, which has been preparing and delivering meals to Ridgefield residents since 1972, and School Resource Officer Fernando Luis spoke to the Club about school security after the tragedies of Columbine and Newtown. At the August 15th meeting, the Club was joined by Rotary scholarship recipient Sam Gravitte, and his father, Beau. Congratulations to Sam who is attending Princeton this Fall!
