Ridgefield Arts Council Launches Meet Up for Creatives

The Ridgefield Arts Council has established a new monthly series for local artists and creative professionals dubbed “The Generator.” The inaugural event will be held at 7:30pm, Monday, April 28th at Watershed Gallery.

Each month, artists, writers and performers will gather with the goal of learning, sharing, and networking with others to enhance both their creative process and their careers.  The monthly event will be managed via the website Meetup.com and will feature innovative speakers, arts demonstrations and presentations geared toward the creative community.

“Think of it as Connecticut’s answer to ‘The Factory,’” says John Freyer, Ridgefield Arts Council board member. “Just as Andy Warhol’s studio became a meeting place for artists, writers and musicians in the 1960s, ‘The Generator’ will foster artistic collaboration and the sharing of ideas.”

Each monthly event will feature five-minute presentations designed to inform, entertain, and inspire the creative community.  On April 28th, visual artist Nancy Moore will discuss the concept of “transformation” and using life events to influence one’s art. Marketing consultant Jennifer Mathy will review the importance and composition of the artist headshot. And Andrew Levine, executive director at The York Theatre in Manhattan, and Jeanine Pardey Levine of Manhattanville College, will entertain with poetry and song.

Following the brief presentations, members of The Generator will be encouraged to mix and mingle with presenters and each other.  In addition, the April 28th event will include door prizes courtesy of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Books on the Common, and Jerry’s Art-O-Rama.

Creative types who live in and around Ridgefield are welcome to attend.  Cost of attending The Generator on April 28th is $5 for pre-registration (via meetup.com/The-Generator-Ridgefield-CT) or $10 at the door, which covers the cost of wine and light snacks. Watershed Gallery is located at 23 Governor Street in Ridgefield.
