Hans Fischer Show Opens at Watershed Gallery

Watershed Gallery will open a new exhibition of work by award-winning local artist Hans Fischer, with a reception on Saturday, April 26th at 6pm. Members of the general public are invited to attend and view Fischer’s new paintings, which use encaustic, oil and acrylic paint to blend contemporary representational images with the abstract.  The Hans Fischer Solo Exhibition will run until Sunday, June 1st.

“Light seems to emanate from Hans’s paintings,” says Jennifer Mathy, owner and director of Watershed Gallery. “He expertly uses color and shadow to cast an ethereal, romantic glow on everything from figures to landscapes.”

Hans Fischer was born in Holland and raised in Harrison, NY, before he moved his home and studio to Ridgefield. After college, Fischer’s early years as a “starving artist” were interrupted by the U.S. Army and the demands of his growing family.  Pursuing a career in industrial design, interior architecture, and art direction, Fischer eventually opened his own graphic design agency in 1989. He has dedicated himself full time to his fine art career for the past decade.

“In my work I try capturing the shimmer of light on water, the patterns you see as you turn a corner on a crisp sunny morning,” says Fischer. “I try to use powerful brushwork and bold color relationships to create complex ‘organic’ textures – and achieve unique, vibrant, translucent surfaces with strong graphic qualities that engage viewers.”

Hans Fischer’s paintings have shown in galleries and private collections in the U.S. and abroad. His work has won numerous awards including “Best in Show,” 2011, from the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, the American Art and Print Institute Award, and the New York Art Directors Award.
