Eloise Cupcakes Raise Money for Children's Cancer Research

Fairfield County CureSearch has begun its annual fundraising drive, in an effort to change the odds of survival for the 36 children diagnosed with cancer every day.  Donations to the organization are directed toward scientific research that targets understanding why cancer spreads, developing medications that prevent this spread, understanding the adaptability of some cancer cells to become drug-resistant, and increasing the speed at which drugs move from the laboratory to the patient.

“My beautiful, 14-year-old niece Eloise succumbed to cancer in 2010,” says Elizabeth Butler, who chairs the Fairfield County CureSearch committee. “My family and I are dedicated to building awareness and raising funds to help the more than 40,000 families whose children undergo cancer treatment each year.”

Each Thursday during the month of October, The Cake Box, located at 1 Big Shop Lane, will donate proceeds from the sale of “Eloise” cupcakes to CureSearch.  The cupcakes, inspired by the artwork of Ms. Butler’s niece, are adorned with vibrant purple flowers.  Additional events will be announced in the coming weeks.

“When a merchant like The Cake Box helps raise money for our cause, they are actually helping local families,” adds Ms. Butler.  “CureSearch supports clinical trials at hospitals such as Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Yale University and New York Medical College.  These trials can save children’s lives today, and help accelerate new therapies to children.”

CureSearch for Children's Cancer is a national non-profit foundation that accelerates the cure for children's cancer by driving innovation, eliminating research barriers and solving the field's most challenging problems.  To donate to CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, please visit www.CureSearchWalk.org.
