Invited: Families to Participate in Autism Research Study

Title: You and Your Child are invited to Participate in a Research Study that Examines How Novel Play Interventions Help Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Description

Researchers at the University of Connecticut are looking for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders to participate in a research study.  This study will compare the effects of two different novel interventions on the motor and social communication skills of children.

These studies are being conducted Anjana Bhat, an assistant professor in UConn's Neag School of Education who studies developmental disorders in infants and children.

The UConn IRB has approved these studies, Protocol #'s: H08-234 and H08-111.

Who Can Participate

  • Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders between the ages of 3 and 11 years old.

What the Novel Intervention Study Involves

  • This study will involve a total of 34 visits over eight weeks.  These included 4 testing sessions, 12 training sessions with expert trainers, and 18 home sessions with caregivers.  You and your child will visit our lab or we will visit you at your home, daycare, or school (during or after school hours) to deliver the play-based activities.  The training sessions will be delivered over six weeks.
  • Each testing session lasts about 1-1.5 hours.  Each training sessions lasts for about 30 minutes.
  • During the testing sessions we examine your child’s motor skills during various games that involve walking, drumming, balancing, and copying complex hand movements.  We also examine your child’s social skills during play-oriented activities.

How You Can Help

You can help by volunteering for our study.  If you have questions on the Novel Intervention Study, please call the Infant Development Lab at (860) 486-0019 or email to anjana.bhat@uconn.edu

I disagree. I think Obama does a pretty good job. For one thing, he's brought dignity back to theRead More Whitehouse. Would you really be pleased if your children grew up to be like George Bush? I mean look at the man. Ten years before he was President he was sitting on a bar stool doing nothing with his life. Now after his Presidency, he's an artist painting pictures of himself in the shower. Gimme a break. Through some fluke of nature, somewhere in between there he became President of the United States. You couldn't make this stuff up, but that doesn't make it any less embarrassing. Thank goodness Obama came along and gave America some dignity.

People, stop spraying your lawns with chemicals! Cancer rates in CT are higher than other states.Read More That's because we have the money to spray our lawns and turn them into green perfection. But it can kill you and your kids. Just stop it already. Is your grass more important than the health of your family?

No money for the classrooms? A shame. Ridgefield's BOE just donated $25,000 of taxpayer money toRead More yet another artificial turf field. Gee, that works out to about $480 per classroom - exactly what the teachers have to spend out of their pockets on YOUR kids. Lesson: Money for sports? Yes. Money for the classroom. No.
