Rides for Ridgefield Celebrates

Ride providers, volunteers, friends, and task force members joined together to celebrate the opening of the Rides for Ridgefield Mobility Management Center.  In
late 2011, Eloise Barron, Director of Community Health and Wellness at the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, brought volunteers together to discuss opportunities to serve.  One need identified was that of providing transportation to seniors and mobility challenged individuals.  Dr. Margaret Thompson, a medical sociologist, and Grace Weber, Director of Founders Hall, took hold of that issue with Eloise, organized a task force, and
a working group of concerned citizens.  Today, Ridgefield has the benefit of their hard work.

The Rides for Ridgefield Mobility Management Center provides three functions today: 1. Transportation information for Ridgefield seniors and those with mobility
disabilities, 2. Counseling regarding transportation needs and available options, and 3. Centralized reservation service.  Later this year, it expects to expand
services to include coordination of volunteer drivers, ride scheduling, and rider programs and services.

This exciting new program will provide significant support for the quality of life of Ridgefield seniors and the mobility
challenged.  If you would like information on transportation please call 203-894-RIDE, Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. or email RidesForRidgefield@RidgefieldCT.org.
