Rep. Frey Receives Committee Appointments, Remains Minority Whip
RIDGEFIELD - Representative John Frey (R-111), who today was sworn in to his eighth term in the Connecticut House of Representatives, has received his appointments from House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, Jr. (R-142), as to which committees he will serve on during 2013-14 legislative session. Rep. Frey, who serves as Republican Whip of the House Republican Caucus, has been appointed to serve on the Aging, Banks, and Finance Committees.
“John is a strong advocate for Connecticut families and businesses. His dedication to his Ridgefield constituency and the House Republican caucus earned him these important committee appointments," said House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero.
"I am honored to serve on these very important committees," said Rep. Frey. "The legislature has a great deal of work ahead of us, and I look forward to continuing to represent the residents of Ridgefield and their interests in Hartford."
Representative Frey will be serving as Minority Whip for a third term. A senior caucus leadership role, a Whip is traditionally responsible for helping to shape public policy, influencing fellow Republican lawmakers, and making sure Republican House members are in attendance to cast their votes on legislative issues.
As a member of the Aging Committee, Frey will be responsible for all matters relating to senior citizens. The committee is one of the joint standing committees of the Connecticut General Assembly. It is composed of 12 members - 3 Senators and 9 Representatives. He is a past ranking Republican member of the Aging Committee.
Leader Cafero also appointed Rep. Frey to the the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. The Finance Committee has jurisdiction over all matters relating to finance, revenue, capital bonding, fees and taxation. The committee also has cognizance over employer contributions for unemployment compensation and all matters relating to the Department of Revenue Services and the revenue aspects of the Division of Special Revenue. Rep. Frey has served on the Finance Committee for fourteen years.
Rep. Frey will also serve on the Banks Committee. The committee has cognizance of all matters relating to banks, savings banks, bank and trust companies, savings and loan associations, credit unions, the supervision of the sale of securities, fraternal benefit societies and all legislation dealing with secured and unsecured lending. This is Rep. Frey's third term on the Banks Committee.
During his tenure in the Connecticut General Assembly, Rep. Frey has also served as an Assistant Minority Leader, the Ranking Republican on the Labor and Public Employees Committee and as a member of the Government and Administration, Commerce, and the Insurance and Real Estate Committees.
Rep. Frey was re-elected on November 6, 2012.
