Open Auditions for They're Playing Our Song!!

The Ridgefield Theater Barn announces open auditions for They're Playing Our Song, Tuesday, January 17th and Wednesday, January 18th at 7pm, 37 Halpin Lane, Ridgefield.

Rehearsals begin the following week, with most rehearsals on Monday through Thursday evenings from 7:30-10 pm.

Performances: Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm from March 2nd through March 31st, 2012 with Sunday matinees March 11th, 18th, and 25th at 2 pm.  Additional performances may be scheduled.

Loosely based on the real-life relationship between composer Marvin Hamlisch and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager, They’re Playing Our Song finds Vernon Gersch, a neurotic and successful composer, working with a new lyricist, the lovably eccentric Sonia Walsk, who has already had some success writing lyrics. She dresses in cast-off theater costumes and is a far from punctual. This unlikely pairing seems destined to falter off key. Can Vernon's egotistical bachelor lifestyle cope with Sonia's problems with her ex-boyfriend and her "voices"? As their working relationship grows, so do their feelings for each other. To make sweet music all they have to do is work in harmony… but is that possible?

Seeking 4 males and 4 females, as follows:

Vernon Gersch: baritone, 30s-40s. Cerebral, with a dry, understated sense of humor. Vernon tries to be all business, clearly more comfortable behind his piano than in the company of people. (Actor does not need to be able to play the piano but it is a definite plus).

Sonia Walsk: alto, late 20s/early 30s. Quirky, energetic, intelligent. Sonia rarely stops moving OR talking – living totally "in the moment."

The Voices: 3 males and 3 females, any ages from 16 up, need to sing close harmony and be able to move. They appear onstage throughout the play as Sonia and Vernon’s singing/dancing alter egos.

Auditioners should prepare an up-tempo Broadway song or a "jazzy or soulful" pop song from 1970s to show range. Please bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. You may also be asked to read from the script.  For additional information, please contact the director directly at ginny474@aol.com.
