The Ridgefield Theater Barn will hold open auditions for its Black Box Production, Abelard & Heloise, a play by Ronald Duncan, Sunday, June 3rd and Monday, June 4th at 7pm at the Ridgefield Theater Barn, 37 Halpin Lane, Ridgefield, CT. The production will be directed by Stefanie Woerdeman. Performances will be on Friday and Saturday evenings from July 20th continuing through July 28th.
Billed as a medieval “Love Letters”, the play focuses on Abelard and Heloise, a celebrated 12th century couple, known for their love affair... and for the tragedy that
separated them. They are two well-educated people, brought together by their passion, then separated by the act of her uncle's vengeance. The story is tragic, but what's more interesting is what happened after the agony was over. They do not kill themselves, or marry anyone else (unless you count the fact that both married the church). Instead, they continue to live, write and love separately in religious seclusion. Based on the seven letters which form the correspondence between Heloise and Abelard, this play explores how their love is reignited through their letters in the presence of the Church, the
monasteries and convents of twelfth century France.
Those auditioning will be asked to read from sides provided. For more information, including a cast breakdown, please visit www.ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org, or contact the director, or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please no phone calls.
