Sophisticated New Device Allows “Try Before You Buy” Option
Just in time for the holidays, Ancona’s Wines has invested in two WineStations to help customers find the perfect wine to suit their tastes and budget. The automated, temperature-controlled wine dispensing and preservation system is about the size of a small dorm refrigerator and offers a measured taste of four featured wines. Ancona’s Wines is the exclusive retailer in Fairfield County to offer WineStations, and the store has installed two in each of their locations: one for reds, and one for whites.
“We're confident the WineStation will enhance the in-store experience and the way our customers shop for wine,” said Mitch Ancona. “While staff members will continue to engage customers in conversation, the WineStation will allow us to go one step further by gauging someone’s tastes. We can then recommend wines based on their responses.”
It’s a relatively simple process. Choosing from a broad range of either red or white wines, customers will be offered a taste. Based on their judgment and reaction, an Ancona’s staff member can suggest specific wines that suit their needs, even ones that are not featured in the WineStation.
"Shoppers can now explore a wide variety of wines they may have otherwise shied awayfrom due to lack of knowledge or price point," said Ancona. “This is perfect for both novices and connoisseurs.”
The WineStation technology allows a bottle of uncorked wine to stay fresh for up to 60 days, offering a "just opened" pristine taste experience every time. Once a bottle is uncorked, the machine reseals it with argon gas, preventing the normal process of oxidation that typically spoils a bottle in about three days.

Ancona’s Wines is located at 720 Branchville Road in Ridgefield and at 5 River Road in Wilton. Both stores currently stock more than 2000 wines from over a dozen countries, over 400 beers from around the globe, and over 80 different single malt scotches. Ancona’s Wines offers weekly wine education classes at their Ridgefield location, and can customize educational classes for groups as well. There are Saturday tastings at both stores, special events, and always an educated wine expert at each location who has taken courses to increase his/her knowledge.
