Ability Beyond Disability Awarded $500.00 from the Rotary Club of Ridgefield

The Rotary Club of Ridgefield has awarded Ability Beyond Disability a $500.00 grant that will help fund programs that will better the quality of life for the Ridgefield residents served by the organization.

The funds will be used to create a work-out/recreation area at a residence in Ridgefield where two young women living with disabilities reside. The funding received will go in part towards the purchase of a Wii Fit Bundle, light weights and pedometers. The equipment will also be shared with another group home in Ridgefield, where six men with disabilities reside.

The remainder of the funding will be used toward recreational activities in the community to benefit the two young women and six men. Funds will be used to purchase tickets to the Ridgefield Playhouse, the movies and meals in the local community.

The philosophy of both Ridgefield residences is a wellness model that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle while acquiring independent living skills both in the home and in the community.

Ability Beyond Disability is a 501{c} (3) organization headquartered in Bethel, Conn. and Mount Kisco, N.Y. It provides a wide range of services for approximately 1,800 people with differing abilities -- including community and independent living options, employment training, career counseling, job placement services, cognitive and life skills instruction, clinical and therapeutic support, and volunteer and recreational activities.
