Special Education: Options & Opinions
As key players in their child's special education program, it's critical that parents understand their rights, engage with community resources, and become effective partners with their local school district. A panel of four experts from the Ridgefield community will provide an evening's worth of clear and current information on the educational, social, medical, and legal issues for students with disabilities, preschool through college. Whether you are a novice parent trying to navigate the system, or a seasoned parent with years of experience, by the end of the evening you will have a surer understanding of your child's education.
Jean McKeever, parent: Be your child's best advocate: Practical tips on getting the most from the Special Education system. Ridgefield resident Jean McKeever has navigated the Ridgefield school system from elementary school through high school. Her presentation will offer you the best of what helped her son, who just finished his first semester at college.
Daria Rockholz, Ph.D, independent educational consultant: Making the Transition to College: With more than 25 years’ experience as a Special Education teacher and administrator in both public and private education sectors, Dr. Rockholz currently consults several school agencies. She has served as Chairman of the Board of Education in her home school district for several years. She is a certified college counselor and a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultant Association (IECA). Her practice focuses on helping students with learning needs transition from high school to college.
