Ridgefield Theater Barn One Acts 2012 An Eclectic Joy

A night of one-act plays gives the Ridgefield Theater Barn a chance to showcase an array of intriguing characters and quirky premises.

Seven plays in one night, each of them as different from one another as they can possibly be. That's the purpose of the Ridgefield Theater Barn's night of "One Acts," to showcase a number of local playwrights and actors in a smorgasbord of minimalist theater that takes the audience on a strange and satisfying ride. Featuring the works of playwrights Jim Gordon, David Cohen and Carol Mark (a RIdgefieder), the Theater Barn opened this past weekend to a full house Friday and Saturday -- the show continues for the next two weekends on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. The seven plays, although completely different in tone and rhythm, form a wholly local experience that couldn't possibly be duplicated. The show starts with Gordon's play, "…

Ridgefield Theater Barn Presents One Crazy Garden Party

The Ridgefield Theater Barn’s production of the 1973 British comedy "Round & Round the Garden" opens 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

Over the course of one mad weekend, the six characters in Alan Ayckbourn’s Round & Round the Garden, part of his Norman Conquests trilogy, find themselves weaving in and out of witty conversations and wacky situations as they converge in a small English garden in Sussex. And the Ridgefield Theater Barn’s production of the 1973 British comedy opening 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, delivers the dry, sometimes over-the-top banter in a way that highlights the tested relationships between Ayckbourn’s characters as they carouse across the small stage under the direction of Debbie Levin. There’s newcomer Harry Lipstein as the titular Norman, a drunken Don Juan sort of cad; Meghan O’Rourke as the sweetly bemused Annie; Patrick Kelly as the dim-witted but…

"Leaves and Wind: Nature's Greatest Love Story"    By Pia Rebello Britto, Ridgefield Resident   Still leaf Limp at bough Pensive immobility Seeking love   Surreptitiously concealed wind Unsuspecting gentle waft Leaves quiver thrill to the touch Courtship in the air   Gusty wind Branches sway Leaves dance with abandon Romance in the air   Howling wind Wiping through denuded branches Desperately searching  Adored mislaid leaves   Leaves-in-pain fallen by the wayside Heave with longing Attempts at resuscitation in vain Alas, never to feel beloved wind again   September 1, 2011, Post-Irene

The Bluesman Cometh: Kenny Wayne Shepherd Ridgefield Exclusive

Kenny Wayne Shepherd brings his blues and rock to The Ridgefield Playhouse, a venue he said "was actually built for music, for performance."

Let's just say you're tired of hearing lackluster singers using auto-tune. Or uninspired bands on autopilot. Or folks who've never met each other until they come onstage because they've recorded their most recent album in different studios. Looking to hear the sound of a real organic band and a bluesy singer who needs no pitch correction?  Then you're in luck. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, a bluesman whose command of his craft and spirit seems to deepen with each record, hits The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday Night. Expect to hear lots of tunes from his new album, "How I Go," a typically deft mix of covers and originals. And yes, played by a real live band. "I'm still pretty close to this record," Shepherd told the Ridgefield Patch, "but I …

Aldrich Museum Brings A Number Of Holidays To Ridgefield's Doorstep

Despite Sunday's downpour, the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art embraced holidays galore through the artist collective MTAA.

Neither the birth of a child nor a severe thunderstorm stopped one member of the artist collective 'MTAA' from putting on a performance of ‘all the holidays all at once.’ Michael Sarff and Tim Whidden make up MTAA, the collective that has brought these holidays to the Aldrich Contemporary Museum of Art’s sculpture garden. Although Whidden took the day off to witness the birth of his first child, Sarff stood in on Sunday afternoon to represent his half of MTAA, which stands for the M. River and T. Whidden Art Association, Sarff explained. “I would like to take this moment to congratulate Tim Whidden and Shane Harrison on the birth of the youngest member of the MTAA family, Harper Harrison-Whidden,” Sarff announced, perhaps not expecting …
