World Trade Center Remnant Arrives
Large piece of steel will be placed at the town's Sept. 11 memorial.
A remnant of steel from the World Trade Centers that will be placed at Ridgefield's September 11th Memorial made a brief stop in front of Fire Headquarters Thursday morning.
The remnant, which was given to the town by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, was transported from a hangar at JFK airport. It will placed at the memorial during a ceremony Sept. 11.
The memorial will be in the field at the town's Recreation Center, just off the walking path along Danbury Road (Rt. 35).
Ridgefield landscape architect Jim DeLalla designed the site, which will have trees encircling the memorial. Three benches representing the three Ridgefield residents who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, will flank the sculpture.
Ridgefield artist and builder Chris Curnan has designed and will install the memorial, which will have a pentagon-shaped base to support the steel beam.
