'Veterans Allow You to Make Decisions'

The day's most interesting comments from Patch users in your town and neighboring communities.

FAIRFIELD: "As a veteran that served 3.5 tours of duty in Vietnam and have lived in Fairfield for 30 years, I think this BOE needs to take a hard look at this subject. It seems the schools are not teaching history. Fifty-eight thousand men and women died in Vietnam. I wonder what would happen if [Fairfield] passed this or tried to not celebrate MLK Day (remember Wallingford?). Veterans allow you to make decisions. Without them, this country would not be free to even take holidays. I wonder if some of these board members like the person that recommended this ever was a veteran that fought in action during a conflict. Stop bringing up stupid recommendations. We WILL be back year after year. If it does pass next year, [Fairfield] will be all over the Internet and I will make sure of that. It is called BAD Press. Remember the vets and teach the students our history." This is one Fairfield Patch reader's response to an article about a recent discussion at a recent Board of Education meeting about holding school on Veteran's Day.

NORWALK: "'To protect and serve?' Let us hope he is dumped from the police force since he can't even protect his own wife from the thug between his ears." This is one Norwalk Patch reader's response to news that a Norwalk police officer was place on administrative leave after allegedly grabbing his wife by the hair and holding her down.

RIDGEFIELD: "This was probably the loveliest and most tender service I have ever been to. Beautiful music and lovely meditations...  unique and spiritually comforting experience." This is one Ridgefield Patch reader's description of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church's Blue Christmas service, which was held this week.

WILTON: Seems like the Wilton teachers have conjured up the spirit of Albert Shanker: 'When schoolchildren start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of schoolchildren.'" This is one Wilton Patch reader's response to an article about arbitration over Wilton Public Schools' binding teachers union contract.
