'Tax and Walk, Tax and Walk ...'

DARIEN: "Raise taxes, it's going to get better, trust me — not. The CT electorate just isn't that smart, this is all no surprise. When more than half the state has their hand out, it becomes a classic example of left wing ideology gone amok. What happens when people and businesses of southern Fairfield County start saying forget this and move out?" This is one reader's response to this week's installment of "Capitol DisPatch, where lawmakers discussed the state's financial woes.

FAIRFIELD: "I'm curious about this whole hookah thing. People purposely go to a place to engage in a mass smoke-in? And you smoke out of one of those contraptions like the caterpillar in 'Alice in Wonderland?'" This is one reader's response to news that Jaled Gorra, 41, owner of Casablanca Hookah Lounge at 86 Post Road, was served a warrant by Fairfield police last Thursday in connection to an investigation of underage drinking that reportedly took place at the lounge.

WESTPORT: "Truly amazing. The governor and the legislature raise taxes on essentially everything $1.7 billion dollars and we are still running at a deficit. Combine that with Connecticut being the worst state to retire, having the highest public debt per capita and just getting downgraded you would think maybe just maybe we would start to think about reducing expenditures like Governor Christie did in NJ. But alas, until the problem gets so monumental that everyone feels it, life in idyllic CT will go on. My prediction — for what it's worth — is that Tax Collections will be lower than budgeted and there will either be another deficit or more cost cutting." This is another reader's response to this week's installment of "Capitol DisPatch."

WILTON: "Sales tax revenue on fuels should be spent on the county roads where the tax was collected. It's that simple. Every newbie in Hartford promises to fix Fairfield County roads and then walks away from it. I95 is a mess but Hartford spent lavishly on I84 and I91 near them using FFC dollars. The DOT screwed up the Merritt bridge over old Rt 7 in Norwalk and then walked away. Tax and walk, tax and walk ..." This is one reader's response to this week's installment of "The Hub," which covered the much-needed repairs needed for the Merritt Parkway.
