Shop Local in Ridgefield to Revitalize Your Style

Personal style consultant Pam Friedlander of Positive Reflections said she doesn't need a storefront because the entire Ridgefield shopping district is her work space.

If you’ve ever watched the TLC reality show What Not to Wear and wished you could have a makeover too, you may be pleasantly surprised to know that Ridgefield has its own local makeover expert. Six year ago, Pam Friedlander of Danbury, launched Positive Reflections based on her belief that she could help people achieve a new outlook by improving their style.

“I lost 60 pounds eight years ago, and needed to learn to dress differently and to see myself in a different light,” Friedlander said. That personal experience is what motivated her to leave her job as a manager for an adult daycare facility, to become a personal image consultant. “Most of my clients are in transition. They often feel they are stuck in a rut and want to be on trend but don’t know how to do it,” she said, “That’s what I do.”

Specifically what she does is a 3-step approach: Friedlander starts in her client’s closet, where she edits their wardrobe. Next she moves to the boutiques of downtown Ridgefield where she pre-shops. Finally she takes her clients on a shopping spree to “try and buy” the items she pre-selected. “My goal, after we have finished shopping is for their new wardrobe to keep their personality intact—just kicked up a notch,” she said.

An active member of Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce, as well the Chamber’s weekly business networking group, “You Snooze You Lose,” Friedlander said she that while she doesn’t have a store front, she considers the shops of down-town Ridgefield to be her workspace. “I have built a nice working relationship with —they have great accessories, and I love because undergarments are just so important. I am currently working to build relationships with the new boutique,” she said, “I have worked very hard to build close relationships with the Ridgefield shop owners, after all we are in it together.”

Toward this end, Friedlander has been an enthusiastic sponsor, participant, and presenter at the Women’s Forum—the annual Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce sponsored event aimed at supporting a network of women business owners.  “Ridgefield has a great business community. I’ve met so many unique small service-based businesses like mine, that people just don’t know about,” she said “I think it would be great if the Ridgefield Chamber could help us-the small service businesses-get the word out.”

In addition to one-on-one consulting services, Friedlander offers seminars for corporations, organizations, and even private parties. “I adore what I do. And I love teaching my clients how everyone’s body type actually tells them what their style should be. Women tend to see the things they don’t like about themselves and I love helping them change their outlook and self image,” she said.
