In a battle of state powers, the boys hockey team defeated second-ranked Notre Dame of West Haven 2-1 Wednesday at the Bennett Rink.
Jack Christensen and Tim Kelly scored for the fourth-ranked Tigers, who improved to 6-1 with their sixth consecutive victory.

Christensen scored at 11:13 of the second period and Kellly tallied at 5:12 of the third to make it 2-0.
That turned out to be the game-winner as Bill Vizzo got the Green Knights (7-2) on the board with 2:56 remaining.

Nate Gliedman made 24 saves for the Tigers, who could move up to No. 2 in the state rankings. Their only loss was a season-opening 3-0 defeat to No. 1 Fairfield Prep.
Paul Sliwinski made 21 saves for Notre Dame, which was coming off a 4-3 defeat to the Jesuits.

Katie Curnan scored two goals Wednesday as the Ridgefield girls hockey team posted a 4-2 victory over winless Wilton.
Dana Cerone and Melissa Hutchings also scored for the Tigers, who improved to 7-2.
Ridgefield goalkeeper Maggie Philbin needed to make only four saves. Wilton, which dropped to 0-5, was blanked until Madison Hendry and Perri Blicht scored in the third period.
Hutchings goal earlier in the period had given Ridgefield a 4-0 lead.
Wilton netminder Vanessa Pagano made 23 saves to keep the Warriors in the game.
