Ridgefield Girls Hockey Wins Marathon Affair Against Simsbury

Anna Marcus scored in the fifth overtime to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over Simsbury in the state quarterfinals.

The Ridgefield girls hockey team ended Monday exhausted but elated.

Sophomore Anna Marcus scored late in the fifth overtime -- nearly 40 minutes after the end of regulation -- to propel the Tigers to a dramatic 3-2 victory at Simsbury in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

The Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit, forcing overtime on a goal by Cara Lockwood with 5:39 left in the third period.

Dana Cerone scored in the second period to bring Ridgefield (13-7-1) to 2-1 against Simsbury.

Maggie Philbin recorded 26 saves for the Tigers, who advanced to Wednesday's semifinal against Darien at the Darien Ice Rink. The Blue Wave rallied from a three-goal deficit to oust Hall-Conard 4-3 on Monday.
