Patrick Samuel Smith of Ridgefield passed away unexpectedly Friday at the age of 20 while vacationing in Spain with his family.
Patrick was born on December 27, 1990 in Charleston, W.Va., and lived in Ridgefield for the past 15 years. He died as the result of a bacterial infection.
In addition to his parents, Tammy Mandeville of Ridgefield and James Smith of Stamford, he is survived by his four brothers, Adam, Eric, Sawyer and Lucas; maternal grandparents, John and Sandy Mandeville of St. Albans, W.Va.; and paternal grandparents Don and Cordelia Smith of Carlisle, Ky.
“Patrick was also loved immensely by his stepmother Pam, many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as his two beloved dogs, Lily and Sienna," family members said. "His family and countless heartbroken friends whose lives Patrick touched will forever remember this charismatic, compassionate young man."
Patrick graduated from Ridgefield High School in 2009. He played lacrosse as well as basketball through RBA.
“Patrick loved sports, food and travel, but most of all, he loved his family and his friends," family members said. "He brightened the lives of everyone he met with his shining personality and infectious smile. Patrick will be loved forever.”
A celebration of Patrick’s life will take place Friday, August 12, at Jesse Lee Memorial Church, 207 Main Street, Ridgefield at 3 p.m. with Pastor Bill Pfohl presiding. A reception will immediately follow in Martin Hall located below the church.
Memorial donations in Patrick’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

It is with great sadness that I read of Patrick's passing. He was a playmate of my sons growing up, and I was always amazed at how any family could handle 5 boys. My thoughts go out to his parents and brothers. Peace and love to them all.

Heartbreaking to hear of such tragedy! The loss of two young people in a matter of days is very painful. My thoughts and prayers go out to both families!
Any idea what Patrick did post-high school? Where he worked, perhaps went to school?

I knew Patrick since he was just a little boy. He was one of the most thoughtful, selfless and patient people I've ever known. His big smile and resonant laugh could cheer anyone up. Patrick will be missed greatly and loved always. Thoughts and love to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
