Marconi Speaks At Dems Candidates Forum
He said all of the party's candidates for governor should pledge to support whoever wins the primary.
NORWALK—First Selectman Rudy Marconi joined fellow Democratic hopefuls for state office on Sunday night, saying Republican proposals to fix everything by cutting spending is "absurd."
"We're Democrats, and we're not going to cut everything," Marconi said, "because we've spent too many years getting things done."
Marconi has launched an exploratory committee that may lead to his running for governor.
Whoever becomes the Democratic candidate for governor out of the primary should have everyone else's support, Marconi said.
"Each and everyone one of us candidates needs to make that promise publicly: that we will support the leader of that ticket. That's the only way we're going to take Hartford back," he said.
The candidates forum was held in the Fat Cat Pie Company pizza restaurant on Wall Street in Norwalk, with a wall-to-wall crowd of supporters cheering for each speaker and enjoying free pizza and wine.
Other gubernatorial candidates who spoke were Ned Lamont of Greenwich, Dannel Malloy of Stamford and Mary Glassman, First Selectwoman of Simsbury.
