Many of Ridgefield's local business owners offer more in their stores than individualized stock and service—they also offer up their wall space as forums for local artists to display their latest efforts.
In Nature's Temptations, shoppers can purchase organic goods while admiring the Native American art on the walls. In Ross' Bread, patrons can indulge while admiring the work of a couple artists.
"It is hard for artists to find a venue, so this is a nice way for an artist to show work," Valerie Schneiderman, of Ross', said.
Some of the local merchants displaying local work made the artist connection through the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, including Nature's Temptations. The guild has a satellite gallery program that a board member is trying to expand that pairs interested businesses with member artists.
Local business owners use local artists' work to complement their own spaces as well as to attract more attention to the wealth of artistic talents headquartered around here.
"Art makes such a difference in a place, and it fits perfectly in the spa environment," said Susi Laura, of Susi Laura Massage, another local business displaying local artists through the satellite program.
Another store, Interiors and Designs by Ursula, displays original artwork to help make her interior design store look like a home environment. Hanavan said she prides herself on having original artwork at her fingertips. Her store currently features an artist from West Haven and one from Wilton.
Other local merchants displaying local art include Rodier Flowers, Higgins Real Estate, Neumann Real Estate, Cafe Svago, and soon, Buddhi Mat Yoga will join Ridgefield's local art display scene.
