Kids Planner: Bookworms, Pigtails, Chamber Music And More...

Looking for something to do this weekend? Take the kids along for these Ridgefield events.

  • The Ridgefield Library is hosting a Bookworms book discussion for second and third graders on Thursday, May 19.  The session will take place in the Children’s Program Room from 4:30-5:15 p.m.  For more information, call Geri Diorio at (203) 438-2282 or email children@ridgefieldlibrary.org
  • Bring your little one to the Rigefield Library on Friday, May 20, to listen to Happy Dan the Music Man.  His concert, called Sing with your Baby, will run from 11-11:45 a.m. in the Dayton Program Room.  Open to children from birth through age 3.  No registration required.  Contact Geri Diorio at (203) 438-2282 or children@ridgefieldlibrary.org for more information.  For musician information, visit www.happydanthemusicman.com.
  • Author PW Catanese (Happenstance Found, Dragon Games, The End of Time) will conduct a discussion session at the Ridgefield Library on Friday, May 20, from 4-6 p.m.  Open to TAG members, as well as other teens in grade 6-12.  The discussion will touch on Mr. Catanese’s books and his writing process.  Books will be available for purchase and signing after the event.  No registration required.   • Pippi Longstocking is coming to the Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, May 21.  This is the classic story of the young lady with crazy pigtails who lives with a horse and a monkey in an old abandoned villa.  Presented by American Family Theatre, part of the Pepsi Children’s Series.  Shows will take place at 11am and 2pm.  All tickets are $15.  To purchase seats, call (203) 438-5795, or visit www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
  • The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra is performing a Chamber Music Concert at the Keeler Tavern Museum on Sunday, May 22, at 3 p.m.  Costs: adults $15, seniors and students $12, and children under 12 $10.  Tickets are available at the door the evening of the concert.  For more information, contact the Keeler Tavern Museum at (203) 438-5485, or visit www.keelertavernmuseum.org, or www.wctyo.org.
  • On Sunday, May 22, the Ridgefield Library will host a School Scrabble Tournament for kids in 4th through 12th grade. The tournament will take place in the Children’s Program Room from 1-4 p.m., and features three 44-minute School Scrabble games, played in teams of two.  All skill levels welcome.   • Don’t forget to register your child for the Ridgefield Library’s Read-a-Thon!  The event runs through May 27, and is open to kids in Kindergarten through Grade 5.  To find out more, visit the read-a-thon webpage, or call Mary Rindfleisch at (203) 438-2282 x 1009.
