Booze La La

Melange is moving into what was most recently Shoe La La on Bailey Avenue.

Melange Wines has rented the store that used to be Shoe La La on Bailey Avenue and is in the process of transferring its liquor permit from its current site on Governor Street to the new one.

The store is scheduled to change locations by mid-July. The two spaces are about the same size—the current store is about 860 square feet and the new one will be about 830.

The new store won't require approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission, since it's continuing to be used as a retail space. But it will require that the state Liquor Commission, part of the Department of Consumer Protection, approve the permit transfer. On the town level, that permit is then given the OK by the health and zoning departments and the fire marshal.

Melange's current Governor Street location has lacked a large next-door neighbor since the strip's anchor store, Balducci's, closed in spring 2009. The move puts it in the thick of Main Street foot traffic patterns.

After Melange moves, the wall between it's soon-to-be-former space and what was Balducci's is slated to be knocked down to create one larger rental unit.

So happy for Melange. We frequent the store and find the owners friendly and knowledgeable. Plus they offer a very nice selection of wines. All the best in your new location.

Sure hope something goes into Balducci's. It has taken such a long time.... any prospects?

Seemed like they were doing alot of work to the building at first, but nothing in a very long time.

I hope it remains a market, or perhaps a restaurant. The rumor long ago was for a PETCO type business. I think that wouldn't be helpful to that area....

Good luck, Melange!
