Baseball Holds Off Westhill
John Morrison goes the distance in the Tigers' 6-5 win over the Vikings.
John Morrison tossed a complete-game six-hitter as the Ridgefield High School baseball team held off Westhill, 6-5, in Stamford on Monday.
The Tigers rebounded from a 3-1 loss at St. Joseph to improve to 3-2, including 2-1 in the FCIAC.
Ridgefield's Shane Beckwith opened the top of the first with a triple and scored on a single by Mark Giles, who come home later in the inning to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Ridgefield increased its lead to 5-1 in the third on consecutive two-out RBI singles by Dennis Ashley, Tom Payne and Beckwith.
Westhill (3-4, 2-3) answered with three runs in the bottom of the third, however, pulling within 5-4 on Morgan Williams' two-run single.
Another RBI single by Ashley gave the Tigers an insurance run in the top of the seventh, and they withstood a rally in the bottom half of the inning.
Alex Rough's RBI double pulled the Vikings within a run again, but Morrison (2-1) got the final two outs to preserve the win.
