Marconi Video Calls for Medical Tort Reform

A new satirical Marconi video calls for medical tort reform. We need to halt the looming doctor shortage, he says.

Rudy Marconi, Ridgefield first selectman and exploratory candidate for governor, has released a new campaign video underscoring the urgency of reforming Connecticut's medical liability tort system.

"Connecticut is seen by physicians as having the worst climate in which to practice," he said, “and, as a result, we're facing a doctor shortage."

In a recent op-ed posted to his Web site, Marconi laid out his ideas for reform, which include a cap on non-economic damages and stronger guidelines regarding the testimony of expert witnesses. Read it here: http://rudymarconi.com/news/newsitem.php?section=PRS&id=8143&showcat=2&seq=2

While the new video satirizes a type of legal services advertisement sometimes seen on cable television, Marconi is careful not to tar all lawyers with the same brush.

"Most lawyers do work that is helpful and important," he said. "But there is a subset of personal injury lawyers who have been working hard to prevent the change we need."

The new video brings back a vintage ventriloquist dummy called Eddy, who appeared in a previous Marconi video. "Our low, public-financing budget precludes hiring actors, and Eddy works cheap," said campaign communications director Dave Goldenberg. "However, his performance is a bit wooden." The new video can be seen on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3SnDZjUPco.

It is also available, together with all other Marconi videos, at the RudyVision area of the Marconi Web site: http://rudymarconi.com/sbcc/personalinfo.php?page=biography&seq=8.
